Ibi sunt iiii hidae. There are four hides of land [originally liable to furnish 4 warriors in wartime, and equivalent taxes].
Terra est iii carucis Land for three ploughs [360 acres of arable],
In dominio est una including one plough on the home farm of the lord of the manor;
vii villani, viii bordari cum iii carucae 7 tenant farmers and 8 smallholders with 3 ploughs.
Ibi ii molini de ii solidos There are two water mills yielding 2 shillings annually;
x acrae prati 10 acres of meadow;
Silva i leuua longa i lata Woodland one league long and one wide [1.5 miles x 1.5 miles: 1400 acres],
value 20s when exploited. to the value of 20 shillings when exploited [for timber, firewood, grazing pigs etc]
Totius valuit et valet xxx solidos.. The total annual rent value in 1066 was 30 shillings, and it is the same today.
Aluuard tenuit. liber fuit. Alfward [the sheriff, and Thorkell's father] held it freehold [at King Edward the Confessor's death].
